7 1/2 Habits

"The 7 1/2 Habits of Successful Lifelong Learning" are the scaffolding that is built when we are developing learning habits. After they are gelled into these habits that is when the scaffolding is removed.
This is my game plan!
7 ½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners
Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
Habit 3: View problems as challenges
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage
Habit 7: Teach/mentor others
Habit 7 ½: Play

Podcasts

Of all of our 23 things list, Podcasts do not make me want to jump up and down. I see them serving a purpose ,but maybe I can't see as many bells and whistles like You Tube. This just means after this, there will be major buckling down to see more about these little gems.

This Journey Has Not Ended, But Just Begun

This World of Technology

It's in the Palm of our Hands

This journey has been an awakening, a blossoming, and an unfolding of technology and creativity. We hold the entire world of information and it is right here in our collective hands as libraries, librarians, and all staff . I will not ever stop my quest for more knowledge and the tools to reach that knowledge, then convey it to others. It is my life long goal and along the way will always remember to laugh and love what I do..

Online Tools

Zohos Google Writer is like Word on the internet. It was easy to maneuver around the elements and coordinate the document. I must admit it was almost easier than Microsoft Word.

Four of Web 2.0 2007 Award Sites

Yelp is a great way to find places like restauraunts, doctors, etc., and reviews. Sign in and keep a record of favorites, messages, and invite friends.

What can I say? As my youngest son says "If Craigslist doesn't have it, there must not be any on the web." It's a buy, sell, negotiate for anything and everything site.

Cocktail Builder was used by my son and his friends for a Memorial Day Party to see what they would need to get to add to the liquor they had on hand for favorite mixed drinks.

Great site to create, blend, match, and save and send those colors. Wow!

Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0?

Amorphous. Intangible. Indefinable with a simple sentence. Luckily, this year, one of the creators of the term, Tim O'Reilly, attempted to do just that:

Web 2.0 is the network as platform, spanning all connected devices; Web 2.0 applications are those that make the most of the intrinsic advantages of that platform: delivering software as a continually-updated service that gets better the more people use it, consuming and remixing data from multiple sources, including individual users, while providing their own data and services in a form that allows remixing by others, creating network effects through an "architecture of participation," and going beyond the page metaphor of Web 1.0 to deliver rich user experiences.

Wikis and Libraries

As I check other libraries, it becomes abundantly clear that that silly little word wikis stands for "Wild Internet Knowledge Infusion Sites". It is on the Internet and that's wild. You place information on it and people can infuse(edit) that information.
Some libraries use their wiki to keep a constantly updating list of books, media, and programs in house and public: and as a professional tool to keep records of data for training and classes.

Net Library and Downloading books to MP3 Players

I have been using downloadable E books on my MP3 player for a while. If I want to go out and walk, I just download a book, put it on my arm strap, put on my little ear buds, and off I go. How techie can a girl (or older lady) get. What I'm listening to now is "All About Love " a regency romance.

Wiki, Wiki, Wikis

No this is not a Hawaiian Hula song. It's a new age and a new place to collect your information. The amazing part of a wiki is that you can make it so you can share and edit this information with others.

Library 2.0 and Our Role

With Library 2.0 expanding and opening the gates information data; how we gather, tag, bundle, and stream this information will change the old concept of card catalogues and books. This new library will still use librarians to drive, coordinate, and quickly deliver this information. The world of the Internet will now allow immediate access and delivery of everything from meeting times to in depth reference answers. Pod casts on library blogs to explain procedures, You Tube to present videos of library events, and Library Thing to catalogue favorite book lists this is what is now. It's exciting and energizing.

Rollicking Rollyo

Rolleyo could increase one's consumption of mind numbing spirits. It does not like small web sites. I had hoped it would be good way to let smaller sites have a chance to be seen from my blog. Well I'll just find another way to promote them. Rollyo has good applications, there are some downsides also.

Mashups

Some of the mashups I found are so much fun. Just like http://www.krazydad.com/colrpickr/, this site is a color artist's dream. Have fun.
